Promote World Languages
Here at Sunny Earth, we believe that World Language education promotes multicultural awareness and multicultural awareness promotes peace! If you share this belief, there are many steps you can take to promote World Languages and peace today!
The New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers ( NYSAFLT ) has created an amazing advocacy section to help us best focus our efforts to promote World Language education
If you are a United States citizen, you can help save World Languages by calling your local representative. Urge them to co-sponsor HR 1994 the Excellence and Innovation in Language Learning Act and tell them that learning another language is important! It only takes 5 minutes to check out the bill and to enter your zip code to find and call your representative (see top right corner).
Here are the links to the resources we have found most helpful in our efforts to advocate on behalf of World Language education in the United States. In time, we hope to add helpful links for other countries. Please share any advocacy resources you find helpful for your region.
- New York State Association of Foreign Languages
- American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages
- American Association of Teachers of French
- The Massachusetts Foreign Language Association
- California Language Teacher Association
- Center for Applied Linguistics
- JNCL-NCLIS
As you advocate on the behalf of World Language education, you may want to consider other causes that go hand in hand with language learning, like PEACE and LITERACY!
We also encourage supporting the arts as they help make language learning engaging and otherwise shape our
lives in very meaningful ways! We try to infuse as much music and art into our language learning resources as possible.
We believe that the Arts are instrumental in cultivating multiliterate individuals.
You may have guessed by our Sunny Earth Community page that we are
particularly fond of photography. Unfortunately, along with World Languages,
the Arts have taken a hit in these tough economic times. If you feel as we do,
please consider advocating on behalf of the Arts! Here are some of our favorite
organizations:
National Association for Music Education
National Art Education Association
Americans for the Arts
